Former Celtics Player Reveals Why Giannis Antetokounmpo Wants To Leave Milwaukee

Giannis Antetokounmpo's availability for trade has caused major waves throughout the NBA, as several teams have lined up as suitors for the Milwaukee Bucks star. In light of the forward's decision to entertain trade talks, former Celtics player Eddie House shed light on why Antetokounmpo would want to leave Milwaukee.

While speaking on the "Straight Game Podcast", House said:

"I think this is the reason why he wants to get out of there is because of Dame's injury. I don't think that if Dame didn't get hurt, and they made a deep playoff run, and they competed without him getting hurt - Dame is not going to play next season."

"What Giannis is looking at is like, damn, I signed up for Dame to be here. And I thought we were going to make a run. But he ain't going to be here the rest of the playoffs, we lost. He's not going to be here next season. I've got to get somewhere." 

The Bucks bear no resemblance to the team that won the title in 2021. Although Antetokounmpo remains one of the most dominant players in the league, finishing third in MVP voting this season as well, the team itself has lost its identity.

Since trading Jrue Holiday last season to acquire Damian Lillard, the team hasn't necessarily made much noise in the East. Instead, Milwaukee has seen a gradual decline in performance as they crashed out of the first round after a 4-1 loss to the Indiana Pacers this season.

While much of this could be attributed to Lillard tearing his ACL in Game 4, there are very apparent issues with the roster that see them in a weakened position. These circumstances form a solid basis for House's statement.

Antetokounmpo is 30 years old now. While still in his prime, it is clear that he wishes to contend for titles rather than languishing in mediocrity. Thus, his announcement to be open to trade talks could be viewed as two-pronged. Either the Bucks trade him to a contender, somewhere that aligns with his preferences, or they construct a roster that is capable of contending for a title right now.

Needless to say, the forward has been one of the most discussed players heading into the offseason. Several teams have emerged as potential trade destinations, such as the Miami Heat and even the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Many interesting trade rumors have also made the Golden State Warriors appear like a potential landing spot. Considering Antetokounmpo's recent appearances in San Francisco, including Stephen Curry's dinner party, the rumors continue to heat up.

The Bucks, however, will be desperate to keep their superstar on their roster. Milwaukee will be seeing a lot of key players on the way out in the offseason, either through free agency or potential trades. While there is no indication as to what their offseason plan will be, the Bucks will begin by meeting with Antetokounmpo to understand what direction the franchise will need to take.
