Former Clippers Big Man Signs With Portland Trail Blazers

It was announced by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Monday afternoon that former LA Clippers big man Moses Brown had agreed to a one-year partially guaranteed contract with the Portland Trail Blazers. 

With the Clippers entering last season without an established backup center, Brown had some opportunities to play off the bench for them. While his limitations are significant, most notably on the defensive end, Brown competes very hard and always gives maximum effort in his minutes.

In his time in the NBA last season, which came primarily with the Clippers, Brown appeared in 36 games. As previously mentioned, most of these games came in Los Angeles, as Brown made just two appearances with the Brooklyn Nets after being let go by the Clippers.

At 7'2", Brown has the length to be an impactful rim protector, but opponents often take advantage of his deep drop coverage that opens up the mid-floater area. Not wanting to step up to defend the pick and roll, Brown usually opts for a very deep drop coverage, which allows opposing ball handlers to work with a lot of open space. This can be partially alleviated if Brown's lead guard defender fights over the screen and gets a rearview contest, but it's a difficult way to effectively play defense.

On a Trail Blazers team that could be heading for a full rebuild, Brown should have an opportunity to get some minutes, which is important for a player who is still just 23 years old.
