The Miami Heat were the talk of the town in the NBA when LeBron James and Chris Bosh teamed up with Dwyane Wade. Everyone wanted a piece of them, and a former Heat security guard did just that in an illegal way.

62-year-old Marcos Thomas Perez is being accused of stealing over 400 game-worn jerseys and other memorabilia worth millions of dollars from the Heat. This is according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Florida.

“During his tenure, Perez worked on the game-day security detail at the Kaseya Center, where he was among a limited number of trusted individuals with access to a secured equipment room.

“This equipment room stored hundreds of game-worn jerseys and other memorabilia that the organization intended to display in a future Miami Heat museum.”

Perez retired from the Miami Police Department after 25 years and worked for the Heat from 2016 to 2021. He also worked as an NBA security employee from 2022 to 2025.

One of the items Perez reportedly stole was a game-worn LeBron James NBA Finals jersey that Perez sold for $100,000. Later, at an auction, the same jersey sold for $3.7 million.
