After an injury-plagued and inconsistent rookie season, Jalen Hood-Schifino, the 17th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, was included in the blockbuster trade between the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks for Luka Doncic and Anthony Davis, landing with the Utah Jazz. However, the league-worst Jazz quickly waived him, forcing the young guard to rebuild his career from the ground up.
Determined to prove himself, Hood-Schifino soon landed a two-way contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, spending time in the G League before making his NBA debut for the team on Sunday. In his second appearance, he made an immediate impact, scoring a career-high 19 points off the bench in Philadelphia’s 130-125 victory over the short-handed Dallas Mavericks.
The performance marked just the Sixers’ third win in their last 18 games, and Hood-Schifino’s contributions played a key role in securing the result.
The 21-year-old showcased his scoring ability, hitting 6-of-11 from the field and knocking down five three-pointers while adding two rebounds, one assist and one block in 23 minutes of action. It was a promising display, hinting at the potential that made him a first-round draft selection.

Before joining the Sixers’ NBA roster, Hood-Schifino put up standout numbers in the G League, averaging 27 points and four assists across three games while shooting an impressive 50 percent from three-point range.
His last two outings were particularly dominant, featuring back-to-back 30-plus-point performances and 12 total three-pointers. His ability to create his own shot and score at all three levels is beginning to justify the expectations placed on him coming out of college.

During his rookie season with the Lakers, he played 15 games for the South Bay Lakers, averaging 22 points, 4.8 rebounds and 5.5 assists while shooting 43.2 percent from deep. However, injuries kept him from earning consistent NBA minutes.
Now fully healthy, Hood-Schifino’s offensive skill set is emerging at the right time, giving the Sixers a potential spark as they evaluate their roster ahead of next season following a disappointing campaign.
