Former NBA second-round pick Maxwell Lewis has signed with Tofaş in Turkey, the team announced.
Lewis, the 40th overall pick in the 2023 draft out of Pepperdine, began his career with the Lakers. He saw limited minutes as a rookie, appearing in 34 games for Los Angeles while playing primarily in garbage time. He had a larger role with the South Bay Lakers in the G League, averaging 14.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.2 blocks in 28 outings.
The 6-foot-7 forward opened the 2024-25 season with both Los Angeles and South Bay before being traded to Brooklyn in December in the D’Angelo Russell/Dorian Finney-Smith deal.
His stint with the Nets was cut short after fracturing his tibia in his debut, limiting him to 21 appearances. He averaged 5.3 points and 2.5 rebounds in 14.2 minutes per game, shooting 42.2% from the field and 38% from three.
Brooklyn waived Lewis in June before his 2025-26 salary could become guaranteed, leaving the team with a $100K cap hit.
Tofaş competes in Turkey’s Basketball Super League. Lewis will join former first-round pick Anzejs Pasecniks and Knicks draft-and-stash player Hugo Besson on Tofaş’ roster.
