Former NBA Coach George Karl Calls Out Hawks Star Trae Young For 'Causing Hell' On His Own Team, Says He's Not A Superstar
Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

George Karl rips Trae Young after incident with Nate McMillan.

If you've been paying attention at all to the NBA recently, you are likely already familiar with the ongoing crisis in Atlanta. After Hawks star Trae Young tried to get out of shootaround with his team, he skipped out on the following game, which has led to a number of angry responses and revealing reports ever since.

Regarding who is right and who is wrong, this is one subject the NBA community seems to be split. As some fans try to downplay this whole situation, others (like former Nuggets coach George Karl) have taken to calling out Trae Young directly.

"I'm tired of Trae Young. I'm just tired of him. He already got one coach fired and now he's trying to get another damn good coach fired. What's going on behind the curtain? I have no idea. I'm just tired of guys who cause the hell, and a day later they're the victim. Trae Young is a hell of a basketball player, a really good basketball player, but he is not a superstar yet. He is not a special All-Star yet. He is not a player who has proven that he is a big-time winner. And now we wanna give him all those things before he's ever gotten 'em and give him the luxury that comes with that."

Trae Young Holds A Lot Of Power Over Hawks Organization

Trae, who was drafted in 2018, is already a 2x All-Star and the face of hawks basketball. But he's actually much more than that. According to some of the latest reports, he has an unprecedented level of power within the Hawks franchise, perhaps suggesting that he's got ties directly to the team owners.

Trae — and the way that he handles his powers — he’s got a lot of juice in that franchise, and a lot of people internally are trying to get the word out that he’s got a little too much juice.

I think it’s well past the front office. Part of it is ownership; Tony Ressler owns that team. Nick Ressler, his son, has a lot of power and is very closely tied in with Trae. Perception-wise, there are some folks who feel like that’s part of the reason that Trae feels as empowered as he does. If you’re operating above your “superiors” and going straight to the ownership side, you’re gonna move a little bit differently.

Something stinks in Atlanta, and it remains to be seen how this whole situation will work itself out. After signing Dejounte Murray in the summer, there's no question that the Hawks had every intention of competing for a title this season, but this latest debacle has seemingly derailed all of their progress.

Hopefully, the Hawks are able to turn this around quickly, or things could get ugly very fast...
