The Los Angeles Lakers needed to strengthen this offseason after a disappointing playoff exit against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Lakers were seriously lacking a big man to defend the paint and score in the post, as well as perimeter defenders to guard the likes of Anthony Edwards.

General manager Rob Pelinka has so far struggled to solve those problems, missing out on some quality players to other teams.

LA Clippers make LA Lakers ‘look bad’ with free agency decision

13-year NBA veteran Quentin Richardson recently discussed the Lakers’ offseason struggles with Pat McAfee.

Richardson highlighted the Clippers’ addition of experienced center Brook Lopez in free agency as a deal the Lakers should have made.

“I think the Clippers did that because it was a great move,” he said. “They got Brook Lopez as a backup. He’s going to be backing up [Ivica] Zubac.

“He realizes that he wants to go back home [to LA], and I think it’s a bad look for the Lakers that Lopez chose a backup role to Zubac over a situation where he could have been a starter for the Lakers. I think that says something.”

Richardson thinks the “uncertainty” surrounding the Lakers is the reason why Lopez and many other players have chosen to go elsewhere.

He continued: “I think it speaks to the uncertainty of the guys around the league about what’s actually going to happen there, with LeBron [James], Luka [Doncic], or whatever.”

The LA Lakers can still turn nightmare offseason around

The Lakers have undoubtedly missed out on several top targets, but there are still enough players available to turn their offseason around.

Pelinka should be fully focused on signing recently waived DeAndre Ayton to fill the massive big man void on the roster.

They should then look at possible trades for Austin Reaves. The shooting guard is too similar to Doncic and not what the Lakers need.

Trading Reaves for one or two 3-and-D players to play alongside James and Doncic would give them a chance to compete.
