The Toronto Raptors may have waived Chris Paul, but they are still in need of a backup floor general. With the 2026 playoffs starting in less than a month from now, the Raptors decided to bolster their bench by signing the top draft selection in the 2017 class.
Markelle Fultz, who went unsigned in the 2025 offseason, decided to take a chance by playing in the G-League. After impressing with the Raptors 905, the Toronto Raptors have given the former Washington Huskies star a 10-day contract. Shams Charania first reported the news on his official X account.
“Former No. 1 pick Markelle Fultz is signing a 10-day contract with the Toronto Raptors, Raymond Brothers of I Am Sports & Entertainment tells ESPN. Fultz joins Toronto for his ninth NBA season after spending time with the Raptors 905 G League team,” Charania wrote on X.

Should Fultz play well, this could become a guaranteed deal for the rest of the season. The Toronto Raptors are gearing up for a top-six finish and a secured playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Fultz, now 27 years old, will have another chance to revive his NBA career. After failing to establish himself in Philadelphia, he had a productive six-season run with the Orlando Magic. He last played with the Sacramento Kings in the 2024-2025 season.
The race to secure a top-six finish in the Eastern Conference has been brutal. The fifth to tenth spots all boast similar records. One bad losing streak could result in a hard fall in the standings.
And for the Toronto Raptors, they want to stay in their current position to avoid the play-in tournament – at all costs. They have been steady climbers in the NBA Power Rankings, especially at this crucial part of the season.
Now, they are just hoping that Markelle Fultz can spark something on their bench play, which has been a bit paltry as of late.
