Former Phoenix Suns forward P.J. Tucker no longer wants to be with the Los Angeles Clippers.
That's not exactly breaking news, as theres's been rumblings for months that Tucker was unhappy with his role in Los Angeles. At 38, Tucker hasn't seen the court for L.A. since Nov. 27.
"I feel like I shouldn't have to go through this,” Tucker told ClutchPoints regarding his status with the Clippers. “I didn't ask to be here. I didn't ask for and I didn't demand a trade to be here.”
Tucker was acquired from the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this season. He and Bones Hyland were told to be away from the Clippers during the All-Star break.
There were reports that Tucker could find himself on the buyout market, though he told ClutchPoints that option "wasn't on the table" moving forward. Many Suns fans had believed Tucker would have been welcomed back to the organization thanks to his veteran leadership.
Phoenix recently acquired Royce O'Neale and is reported to have signed Thaddeus Young to bolster their wing depth.
"When you've got guys like PJ, who have another year left on his deal, he can ride off into the sunset, he's 70 years old," said Clippers coach Ty Lue to reporters yesterday.
"But he wants to play, he wants to compete. And so you understand that you want guys like that. So the trade didn't happen, they're going to be here. So we're just gonna give them a little time off, get their minds right and come back Oklahoma City and be ready to go."
The Clippers enter the All-Star break with a 36-17 record and the West's No. 3 seed in postseason positioning. The Suns are four games behind L.A. and currently hold the No. 5 seed.
Tucker spent five years in Phoenix.
