In a major NBA offseason development, the Memphis Grizzlies have moved sharpshooting guard Desmond Bane , a former TCU Horned Frog , to the Orlando Magic in exchange for Kentavious Caldwell‑Pope, Cole Anthony , four unprotected first-round picks, and one first-round pick swap.

Bane, a 6-foot-5 wing, emerged from TCU in 2020 as a second-round pick. He’s since evolved into a legitimate two-way star, averaging 19 points per game and shooting near 40% from three-point range.

With a young roster desperate for more help, the Magic look to Bane to be a proven shooter and playmaker ready to slot in alongside Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner, offering much-needed floor spacing for Orlando.

The Magic struggled in half-court sets last season, ranking 27th in offensive rating and bottom three in 3-point shooting. Adding Bane to the rotation addresses some notable spacing woes and could vault them into the Eastern Conference’s upper echelon.

Bane represents one of the Big 12’s recent success stories in the NBA — going from a star in Fort Worth to a sharpshooter making serious waves in the pros. His rise bolstered TCU’s national reputation as a program that develops pro-ready talent.

This isn’t just a player swap — it’s a seismic roster shake-up with ripple effects across both franchises and the Big 12’s professional footprint. Bane’s move to Orlando signals both teams entering a new chapter, and for TCU, it’s another stamp of legitimacy in scouting and player development.
