Former Wisconsin basketball star Johnny Davis was a lottery pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, going to the Washington Wizards as the No. 10 overall pick. Since then, Davis has been labeled a 'bust,' barely getting playing time on one of the NBA's worst teams.
In his 2.5 years as a Wizard, the former Badger has bounced back and forth between the Wizards and their G-League affiliate team, the Capitol City Go-Go.
While with the Wizards, Davis appeared in 112 games, averaging 11.5 minutes per game and just 2.4 points per game. The Wizards declined to exercise his fourth-year option on his contract, making him an unrestricted free agent after this season.
Now Davis will get a fresh start after he was a part of a trade between the Wizards and Grizzlies that sent Marcus Smart to Washington. Davis is a part of the package going back to Memphis, going from one of the worst teams in the league to the No. 2 team in the West.
He will provide depth at the guard position for the Grizzlies, who already have all-star PG Ja Morant, Luke Kennard, Desmond Bane, Scotty Pippen Jr., and Jaylen Wells.
Davis' career has fallen short of expectations, but a change of scenery may be just what he needs to turn it around.
