Four Teams Emerge as Top Suitors for Suns' Kevin Durant in Potential Offseason Blockbuster Trade

The Phoenix Suns entered the 2024-25 NBA season with high expectations but they never came close to reaching them.

With their superstar trio of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, the Suns were expected to be a top team in the Western Conference this season.

Instead, the Suns finished 11th in the West standings with a 36-46 record, three games behind the Dallas Mavericks for the final Play-In spot.

With the Suns missing the postseason after an abysmal season, they are expected to make some major changes this offseason that could include moving on from both Durant and Beal.

Of course, Durant has been in trade rumors since Phoenix listened to offers for him at the trade deadline and he will enter the summer as one of the most sought-after players on the trade market.

Because of this, Durant will likely see a ton of interest from many teams around the NBA but a recent report by NBA insider Marc Stein has named four teams who have emerged as the potential top trade suitors.

“Minnesota (Timberwolves), New York (Knicks), Miami (Heat) and San Antonio (Spurs) rank as the most frequently cited potential Kevin Durant suitors,” Stein wrote. “League sources, in particular, have been pinpointing the Timberwolves and Knicks depending on how their postseasons play out.”

Of course, these four teams have been mentioned in the Durant sweepstakes more than most other teams thus far.

Despite this, many other teams should also show interest in Durant, especially with most of the four teams Stein mentions having limited trade assets to acquire him.

Of the four teams mentioned, the Spurs can likely put together the best package to land Durant due to their large amount of young talent and draft capital.

While that may be the case, the other three teams can offer win-now players to the Suns for Durant, which may entice Phoenix more as they look to build around Booker for the future but remain competitive.
