Franz Wagner shined in Germany’s 98-86 semifinal victory over Finland at EuroBasket 2025.

The Orlando Magic forward contributed 22 points while shooting 37.5% from three-point range to help secure his country’s spot in the championship game.

Another NBA star Dennis Schroder also delivered an outstanding performance with 26 points and 12 assists, becoming the first player to reach double-digit assists in 30 years.

However, one player emerged as an unexpected storyline with his consistent tournament play.

Isaac Bonga’s excellent defense against Lauri Markkanen sparked NBA comeback speculation, with Franz Wagner’s approval

Isaac Bonga scored 10 points and made two of three three-pointers while playing solid defense that limited Finland superstar Lauri Markkanen to just 16 points.

His performance throughout the tournament created buzz in NBA circles about a potential league return.

Franz Wagner became one of the most vocal supporters of Bonga’s NBA readiness following their semifinal victory.

“Yes, I do believe it, actually,” Wagner said after the game.

“I think he’s shown for a couple of years now that he’s an elite defender, shoots the three really well, and can make some plays off the bounce too. So I think he could have a lot of teams interested in him.”

Bonga previously played in the NBA from 2018 to 2022 with the Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards, and Toronto Raptors.

His most productive stint came with Toronto during the 2019-20 season, averaging 18.9 minutes per game with 5.0 points and 3.4 assists.

Isaac Bonga remains focused on EuroBasket final despite NBA comeback questions

The German forward left the NBA due to concerns about his explosiveness and inconsistent shooting.

Wagner believes those issues have been addressed through Bonga’s international performances and development abroad.

However, Bonga himself remained diplomatically focused on the immediate task rather than discussing potential NBA opportunities.

“I think it’s not really something I’m thinking right now,” Bonga admitted. “I’m more focused on making sure we win in the finals.”

Recent success stories like Guerschon Yabusele’s return with the Philadelphia 76ers and later joined New York Knicks demonstrate that players can successfully transition back to the NBA after developing their games internationally.

Bonga’s EuroBasket performances suggest he could follow a similar path if the opportunity arises after Germany’s championship pursuit concludes.
