The Orlando Magic picked up a scrappy 94-88 win in Game 4 of their 2026 NBA Playoffs matchup against the Detroit Pistons.
The Magic are one win away from becoming the seventh No. 8 seed to upset the No. 1 seed in the first round, but they might have to go forward without one of their star players.
Magic forward Franz Wagner left Game 4 in the third quarter with a calf injury, not returning to finish out the game. Wagner had 19 points, five rebounds, three assists and four steals in 24 minutes up until his injury, playing a key role in Orlando's offense as co-stars Paolo Banchero and Jalen Suggs combined for 5-31 FG (16.1 FG%).
Wagner spoke to reporters after the game and discussed what happened with his calf before confirming that he will undergo an MRI in the morning.
“Hopefully it’ll be better tomorrow. The guys got it done, so that’s all that matters.”
Wagner is averaging 16.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in the 2026 Playoffs. He's had a season with multiple injury absences, averaging 20.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in 34 appearances over the regular season.
If Wagner misses time with his calf injury, the Pistons will feel they have a window of opportunity to complete a 3-1 series comeback. However, their offense hasn't been able to do anything to break Orlando's extreme defensive poise.
Wagner's absence in Game 4 allowed backup guard Jamal Cain to close the game, which led to an incredible highlight where he posterized Pistons center Jalen Duren.
There have been 13 instances of a team making a comeback from 3-1 down, so the Pistons will hope the magic they found in the regular season returns to them for the next three clashes. If the Magic are going to be without Wagner, Detroit might have the defensive pieces needed to continue throttling Orlando's offense.
