Free-Agent Sharpshooter Reportedly Receives Offer from Celtics

After waiving Justin Champagnie, the Celtics have two full-time and one two-way roster spot open.

Before parting with the former Pittsburgh Panther, Boston was $2.3 million under the second apron, per Spotrac. The move gives the C's $4.2 million in breathing room below that threshold.

While there's a good chance it happened before Champagnie's tenure in Boston ended, as the Celtics work to round out their team entering the 2023-24 campaign, they've reportedly offered Svi Mykhailiuk a contract.

The former Kansas Jayhawk, best known for his marksmanship, hasn't shot as consistently from beyond the arc in his NBA career as one would expect. He's had three instances of shooting below 33.5 percent from three-point range. Granted, switching teams in-season is likely partially responsible.

Mykhailiuk drilled 40.4 percent of the 5.1 threes he hoisted while with the Pistons in 2019-20. He also knocked down 40.4 percent of his 4.7 attempts from beyond the arc in 19 appearances with the Hornets last season.

While his inconsistency as a shooter is the primary reason he got left off this author's list of Boston's best remaining free-agent options, he's a six-foot-seven wing who has made an average of 36 percent of the 4.7 threes he's launched in his five-year career. Mykhailiuk meshes with Joe Mazzulla's three-point-heavy approach, and he'd provide the Celtics with a solid layer of depth.
