Gabe Vincent explains why he signed with Lakers in free agency

One of the more intriguing names the Los Angeles Lakers signed in 2023 NBA free agency was former Miami Heat guard Gabe Vincent.

Vincent, who certainly earned himself a solid payday with his strong play in the Heat's run to the NBA Finals, inked a three-year, $33M deal to join the Lakers.

But what drove this Modesto, California native to choose the Lakers over any other opportunity or even a return to Miami? The Athletic's Jovan Buha revealed that Vincent chose the Lakers to "join a contending team and compete for championships."

He also explained that the move was more than just a career decision — it was a homecoming of sorts, as well as the chance to play for an iconic franchise.

Lakers fans will love hearing Vincent's reasoning behind his decision, and there's no question he should step in and make an impact quickly for the team.

While they also re-signed D'Angelo Russell and may use Austin Reaves in a point guard-esque role more, Vincent's ability to play both on and off the ball adds to the intrigue around the move.
