One of the biggest storyline of the NBA offseason is what happens to two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks.
The 30-year-old nine-time All-Star has been the subject of numerous trade rumors this offseason, and some are convinced he won’t be playing in Milwaukee next season.
The Bucks recently released point guard Damian Lillard — a move Antetokounmpo was reportedly not happy with, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes — to free up the cap space to sign big man Myles Turner to a four-year, $107 million contract.
Antetokounmpo has since been linked to several teams in major markets, including the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks, and during a recent conversation with social media influencer iShowSpeed while in Greece about how bad the taxes are in both cities, Antetokounmpo admitted that he’s had people urging him to sign with both teams.
Then the NBA champion was asked about if he’ll still be playing for the Bucks next season, and his answer caught a lot of attention on social media.
“So, are you staying in Milwaukee?” iShowSpeed asked.
“Probably, probably” Antetokounmpo answered. “We’ll see. Probably. I love Milwaukee.”

While Antetokounmpo’s answer wasn’t a sure-fire, end-of-discussion statement, it at least lets fans know which way he’s leaning while still leaving the door cracked just a bit for the possibility of an out-of-left-field Luke Doncic-type trade possibility, which is exactly what ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst said on Thursday.
“The thing about it is, is he didn't give a definitive answer, and I'm certainly not going to analyze something he said seaside in Greece,” Windhorst said. “But what I will say is the ‘we'll see,’ that is essentially what there's about five or six NBA teams banking on, the ‘we'll see.’
“And I know it sounds trivial, but for years Giannis was completely locked in. Him saying ‘we'll see’ backs up what [NBA insider Shams Charania] has been saying this entire summer, which is that he might be more open-minded than he was in the past. I would say the same thing — probably Milwaukee, but we'll see.”
