Giannis Antetokounmpo isn’t ready to make his decision just yet, but the Milwaukee Bucks don’t have long to convince him.
The Milwaukee Bucks have made quite a lot of noise in the last 48 hours. The franchise has taken some extreme measures to build a contender around Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The Bucks signed Myles Turner for $107 million in one of the biggest shockers in recent history. Fans immediately wondered how the Bucks could do this, given their salary cap limitations.
It then came out that the Bucks waived Damian Lillard and stretched his remaining $113 million salary across the next five seasons
This move was quite controversial, as we rarely see star players of Lillard’s caliber get treated this way, especially when they’re out injured.
We heard that Giannis Antetokounmpo was unhappy with the way the Bucks handled things. But he isn’t ready to ask out of the team just yet.
Shams Charania spoke on ESPN about how he expects Giannis Antetokounmpo to react in the long run to the Milwaukee Bucks’ recent actions.
Well, it appears that while Giannis is unhappy with the Bucks’ treatment of Lillard, he is still going to play the waiting game and see how the team builds their roster, and whether he can compete for an NBA championship.
The Bucks have until the end of the offseason to put together a convincing roster to get Giannis to stay on the team.
“Giannis Antetokounmpo will continue to evaluate not just what happened today, but what’s happening all offseason in Milwaukee. He took notice of this move, no doubt.
“But sources tell me that it’s more than just tonight. At the end of the offseason, my understanding is Giannis will ask himself, look around him and ask, ‘Can I win a championship?'”

It appears part of the Milwaukee Bucks’ decision to waive Damian Lillard came down to his approach to rehabbing his Achilles injury, according to Chris Haynes.
Lillard’s agent informed the Bucks that he would like to rehab in Portland, a move that several members of the organization did not like.
“Aaron Goodwin, Damian Lillard’s agent, about a month ago reached out to the Bucks and informed them that Dame would like to rehab back home in Portland and stay with his kids… I was told that some people within the Bucks did not approve of that.”

Lillard wanting to rehab in Portland shouldn’t come as a surprise. Prior to arriving in Milwaukee, Lillard spent his entire career in Portland.
Dame had built a life and a family in the city. So, for him to want to spend his summer there and be closer to his children is understandable.
What isn’t understandable, however, is why the Bucks would have a problem with that. Given that it was the offseason, Lillard wouldn’t have to report to the Bucks’ facility till September anyway.
Whatever the case may be, the Bucks’ handling of this situation will haunt them for years to come. Players will think twice in the future about signing with a team that could do this to them.
