Shams Charania of ESPN reported on Monday that Giannis Antetokounmpo is open to leaving the Milwaukee Bucks for the first time in his career.
The Bucks have won only one postseason series since winning the 2021 title against the Phoenix Suns in six games.
Milwaukee signed Antetokounmpo to a three-year, $175 million extension in October 2023. Antetokounmpo, 30, will make $54.1 million next season. He doesn't have a no-trade clause in his contract, so if Antetokounmpo requests a trade from the Bucks, he can't control where he goes.
If Antetokounmpo decides to leave Milwaukee, plenty of teams will try to acquire The Greek Freak. One of those teams will likely be the Golden State Warriors, who have had Antetokounmpo on their radar for years.
According to Logan Murdock of The Ringer, Antetokounmpo made a surprise visit to Stephen Curry's All-Star weekend party in February. Antetokounmpo's appearance gave some the impression he’d be open to joining forces with Curry someday.
Antetokounmpo and Curry are represented by the same agency, Octagon.
"Sources say Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo made a surprise visit to Curry’s party at a bar on the Chase Center concourse on the eve of February’s All-Star Game, giving some the impression he’d be open to joining forces with Curry someday," Murdock wrote.
The Bucks won 48 games this season but lost to the Indiana Pacers in the first round of the playoffs in five games.
Meanwhile, the Warriors are down 3-1 to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference semifinals. Curry, 37, suffered a Grade 1 left hamstring strain in Game 1 and hasn't played since.
Antetokounmpo is a two-time MVP, a one-time Finals MVP, a one-time Defensive Player of the Year and a nine-time All-Star, while Curry is a two-time MVP, a one-time Finals MVP, a four-time champion and an 11-time All-Star.
