If Giannis Antetokounmpo requests a trade from the Milwaukee Bucks this summer, one NBA analyst has predicted a Golden State Warriors rival to trade for the future Hall of Famer.
Some believe Antetokounmpo should ask out of Milwaukee this offseason since the franchise has won only one postseason series since winning the championship in 2021 against the Phoenix Suns.
The Bucks also may not be good next season since Damian Lillard is expected to miss a chunk of the campaign recovering from his Achilles tear.
With that said, Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report predicts that the Houston Rockets will trade for Antetokounmpo this summer. Houston is 0-5 against Golden State in the postseason in the Steph Curry-Draymond Green era.
The Rockets lost to the Warriors in the first round of this year's playoffs in seven games despite being the higher seed.
"The Rockets have a lottery pick this year via the Phoenix Suns and also own the Suns' unprotected first-rounder in 2027. Putting those in an offer with some of the young talent on the roster would make for a massive offer and get Antetokounmpo to a place where he can compete for championships," Swartz wrote. "Prediction: Antetokounmpo is traded to the Rockets."
Milwaukee signed Antetokounmpo to a three-year, $175 million extension in October 2023. Antetokounmpo, 30, will make $54.1 million next season.
The MVP finalist averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.2 blocks for the Bucks this season in 67 games.
Two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo is also a Finals MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, and nine-time All-Star. The superstar power forward holds career averages of 23.9 points, 9.9 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.2 blocks.
It will be fascinating to see if Swartz's prediction happens. The West would certainly become more rugged with Antetokounmpo in the same conference as Curry, LeBron James, Luka Doncic, Nikola Jokic, Anthony Edwards, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Victor Wembanyama.
