Kobe Bryant was a mentor to several NBA players, including Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kyrie Irving, before his tragic passing.
Bryant was a fierce competitor and often a difficult teammate during his playing days, but he had softened in his retirement.
The Los Angeles Lakers legend became happy to impart wisdom on other players, as he was no longer competing against them.
Antetokounmpo has now revealed the biggest lesson he learned from Bryant that has stuck with him for many years.
Antetokounmpo revealed his most memorable conversation with Bryant in a podcast with his brother, Thanasis.
On the Thanalysis Show, Giannis recalled asking Kobe: “What’s your weakness?” Bryant replied: “I’m an as—–.”
Antetokounmpo then asked: “What’s your strength?” Bryant responded: “I’m an as—–. I don’t give a f—. I’m going to shoot 40 shots.”
Kobe’s point was that your biggest weakness is usually also your biggest strength, which Giannis then applied to himself.
“What’s my weakness? It’s that I’m stubborn,” he continued. “I’m really, really stubborn. If I say I’m going to do this, I’m gonna do it no matter what, [even] if it’s right or wrong, I’m gonna do it.
“But what’s my strength? I’m so stubborn that I’m going to get it done. I got so many messages from him. I learned so many lessons from him.”
Milwaukee Bucks fans will not appreciate this, but Antetokounmpo should use his stubbornness to force a trade.
The Greek Freak’s loyalty to the Bucks is commendable, but it is finally time for him to play elsewhere.
After the failed experiment with Damian Lillard, Giannis no longer has a path to winning another championship in Milwaukee.
Unfortunately, it is a waste of his supreme talent only to be competing for a spot in the Play-In Tournament.
Whereas on another team, the 31-year-old could even have the opportunity to win another Finals MVP.
