For the last several years, Giannis Antetokounmpo has been one of the best basketball players in the world. At the age of 30, he has already compiled a very impressive resume that includes two regular-season MVP awards, a Defensive Player of the Year award and an NBA championship.
But he's at a crucial juncture in his career, as his Milwaukee Bucks are stuck in mediocrity and lack the trade capital to make any real improvements this summer. It is therefore widely expected that he could be traded this offseason.
A post on X pointed out that Antetokounmpo has scored more points than any other player in the league over the last 10 seasons. He responded to it by reminding people that he's an all-around player.
"Not a scorer just a basketball player," he posted.
Antetokounmpo averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 1.2 blocks and 0.9 steals a game while shooting 60.1% from the field this season. He is an absolute terror in transition thanks to his 6-foot-11 frame and long strides, but he tends to kill teams in other ways.
Only two other players have won both the MVP and Defensive Player of the Year awards in the same year: Michael Jordan and Hakeem Olajuwon, both of whom were dominant on both ends of the floor. That is some outstanding company for Antetokounmpo to be included in.
But the Bucks lost in the first round of the playoffs for the third straight year, and star guard Damian Lillard suffered a torn Achilles during that first-round loss to the Indiana Pacers. As a result, their prospects for next season are bleak.
Just days ago, it was reported that Antetokounmpo is "open-minded about exploring whether his best long-term fit is remaining in Milwaukee or playing elsewhere," per ESPN's Shams Charania. Many feel that is the prelude to him asking out of Milwaukee.
