After Giannis Antetokounmpo suffered a hyperextension of his left knee following an emphatic dunk against the Indiana Pacers, there was hope that the injury wasn’t serious.
Even though the two-time MVP was seen limping inside the tunnel, he actually entertained the idea of getting back on the court. However, the Milwaukee Bucks deemed that option to be risky. Injuries have become a recurring theme for the two-time league MVP this season.
While the Bucks want him to sit out for the remainder of the season, Giannis isn’t too keen on that idea and voiced out that he still wants to play.
“There have been multiple meetings over Antetokounmpo’s status in the last 24 hours since his hyperextended knee diagnosis, and a disagreement has ensued between the sides on whether it is best for him to return, sources said,” Shams Charania posted on X.

Currently sitting at the 11th spot in the East with a 28-40 record, the Bucks are facing an uphill climb for a play-in spot. Giannis Antetokounmpo understandably wants to reach that goal. But with basically nothing to play for, Milwaukee just wants to keep their star healthy – in case they plan to trade him in the offseason.
Even though the Bucks weren’t too serious about trading Giannis in February’s trade deadline, the fact that they entertained the idea of doing it had put the entire league on notice. With the team facing difficulties in their roster construction, the one-time champ isn’t happy with their direction.
His Bucks teammate, Bobby Portis, isn’t even too confident when asked about Antetokounmpo’s future with the team. “I’m at a 5, right there in the middle…it’s up in the air,” Portis said.
One thing’s clear, though – it will be a very busy summer for the Milwaukee Bucks.
