The Golden State Warriors are expected to sign Al Horford and De’Anthony Melton after the Jonathan Kuminga situation gets resolved, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report.
Kuminga is a restricted free agent, while Horford and Melton are unrestricted free agents.
“We are still absolutely anticipating that Al Horford and De’Anthony Melton both are gonna be joining Golden State once they figure out Jonathan Kuminga’s situation,” Fischer said.
Kuminga has three options as a restricted free agent. He can re-sign with the Warriors on a new deal, play on his qualifying offer and enter unrestricted free agency next offseason or sign an offer sheet with another team.
Golden State can either match the offer sheet Kuminga signs or complete a sign-and-trade deal. Thus far, Kuminga has been linked to the Phoenix Suns, Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat in sign-and-trade talks.
The Warriors lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round of the 2025 playoffs in five games. Stephen Curry suffered a left hamstring injury in the Game 1 win in Minnesota and missed the rest of the series.
Melton played in six games with the Warriors last season. He tore his left ACL in the sixth game and missed the rest of the season. Golden State traded the veteran to the Brooklyn Nets in the Dennis Schroder deal.
Horford played for the Boston Celtics last season. He will not re-sign with the club. The veteran helped the Celtics win the 2024 championship against the Dallas Mavericks in five games.
The Warriors haven’t made any moves this offseason. They acquired Jimmy Butler from the Heat last season in February and gave the forward a two-year, $110 million extension.
It will be interesting to see where Kuminga is playing next season. The youngster wants to be an All-Star, but he may not have a chance to accomplish that goal with the Warriors since Curry and Butler are the main options on offense.
