The Golden State Warriors are struggling. With Stephen Curry missing a lot of games for injury, the playoff scenario looks as good as over for Steve Kerr’s team. Thus, in order to rejuvenate the squad, the front office is desperately looking for some big names. And one among them might just be Kawhi Leonard.
Recently, rumors suggested that LeBron James might be joining the Golden State. But realistically, it does not look feasible, at least for now. However, when it comes to acquiring Leonard, the team was in advanced talks during the trade deadline.
According to an update from NBA analyst Tim Kawakami, “The Warriors were close to acquiring Kawhi Leonard at the deadline before the Clippers pulled out. They are expected to make another aggressive push for him in the offseason.”

Now, such urgency tells a lot about how the front office is viewing Curry’s situation. Although Steve Kerr made it clear that the management will not rush, the team desperately needs an alternative. Add to that, Curry just turned 38. So he might not have a lot of top-flight years left in him.
On the contrary, Leonard’s $50.3 million contract with the Los Angeles Clippers will expire soon. Immediately after, the Los Angeles Clippers will explore trade options for their star player. And this could result in a smooth transition for the Warriors.
Meanwhile, as the Golden State Warriors look to revamp, their head coach may soon leave the franchise.
The golden era of the Warriors is now in the past. While winning the championship looks like a distant possibility, even the playoffs are getting out of reach nowadays. Thus, the fans and the critics are now falling out of Kerr’s bizarre tactics and experiments with the team. However, according to Tim Kawakami, the Warriors might just give Kerr another chance.
“My sense is that the most feasible scenario is that Kerr will return for next season, and that it will be pretty clearly marked as likely his last with the Warriors. A literal last dance, at least for the Kerr era,” said Kawakami.
