Golden State Warriors legend Stephen Curry doesn’t expect to retire from the NBA anytime soon.
Curry is 38. He’s been in the NBA since 2009.
“I think your body is the first point of information,” Stephen Curry told Marcus Thompson of The Athletic. “Just what it takes to get ready for a game is a lot different now than it was a decade ago. When I’m out there on the court right now, I still get lost in the fun. It’s still my happy place. All the work is worth it because I get to go out there and hoop at the highest level. The competition, the camaraderie, the chasing something that matters — that still gets me going. And I don’t see that stopping anytime soon.”
Curry has spent his entire NBA career with the Warriors. He’s a two-time MVP, one-time Finals MVP and four-time champion.
The NBA’s all-time leader in 3s, Curry holds career averages of 24.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game. He has made 12 All-Star teams and 11 All-NBA teams.
“I had that perspective that I had to be the most well-conditioned,” Stephen Curry said. “Even if I didn’t really know how to maximize at the time, it was always kind of a thought and there was a priority to it. So it’s one of my favorite compliments that I get in the middle of a game. Somebody guard me at a free-throw dead-ball or something. We stand next to each other come and be like, ‘Yo, stop moving so much.’”
Curry is currently out with runner’s knee in his right knee. He hasn’t played since January 30.
A future Hall of Famer, Curry has played in 39 games this season. He’s averaging 27.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game while shooting 46.8% from the field, 39.1% from beyond the arc and 93.1% from the free-throw line.
Curry has one year left on his contract after this season. He will make $62.6 million next season.
The Warriors are in ninth place in the Western Conference standings. If the regular season ended today, Golden State would be in the NBA play-in tournament.
