Grading the Denver Nuggets’ Free Agency So Far
Ron Chenoy-Imagn Images

The Denver Nuggets entered the NBA offseason looking to upgrade their roster around their core of Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon to chase another championship next season.

Of course, Denver is coming off their second consecutive second-round playoff exit and they felt that it was time for a change this summer.

Denver did not hold a selection in the 2025 NBA Draft, so they began their offseason during free agency which they kicked off with a bang.

To begin free agency, the Nuggets traded Michael Porter Jr. and a 2032 first-round pick to the Brooklyn Nets for Cameron Johnson.

This was a surprising move by the Nuggets as they had been unwilling to move on from Porter Jr. in prior seasons, but this move allowed them to acquire a three-point sharpshooter in Johnson as well as clear cap space to make more moves.

After clearing cap space by trading Porter Jr., the Nuggets then signed both Bruce Brown and Tim Hardaway Jr. in free agency and also pulled off a trade with the Sacramento Kings for Jonas Valanciunas.

Nuggets' Free Agency Grade: A-

With these moves, the Nuggets earned an A- free agency grade as they have done a great job of upgrading their roster, primarily their depth, to chase another title next season.

Of course, the Porter Jr. trade does not completely count as a free agency move for the Nuggets but it did allow them to open cap space to upgrade their second unit, which was a major issue for them next season.

By reuniting with former champion Brown, the Nuggets add a versatile scorer, playmaker and defender who can play and guard multiple positions and has already proven to be a key part of their success in the past.

For Hardaway Jr., he gives the Nuggets a reliable scorer off the bench, which they desperately needed after their bench until struggled last season.

Denver also has more time to make other moves to upgrade their roster as they have been linked to Al Horford, Chris Boucher and could also potentially bring back Russell Westbrook.
