Grading the Oklahoma City Thunder's Free Agency So Far

The Oklahoma City Thunder entered the NBA offseason not needing to make many moves as their roster was almost full already entering next season.

Of course, the Thunder are coming off a dominant season that saw them finish with the best record in the NBA and then make a run at a championship, their first since relocating to Oklahoma City.

Their core of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams led the way, though they had many other key contributors including both Alex Caruso and Isaiah Hartenstein, both of whom they added to their roster last offseason.

Instead of adding more players through free agency or the trade market this summer, the Thunder have instead elected to lock in their current core and also re-sign some of their key role players.

Oklahoma City began the offseason by re-signing Jaylin Williams and they also signed Ajay Mitchell to a new contract before he hit free agency.

They then locked up their star trio of Shai, Williams and Holmgren by signing all of them to a max extension that cost the Thunder a total of $882 million between the trio.

Thunder's Free Agency Grade: B+

With these moves, the Thunder earned a B+ grade as they were able to lock up their top three players for the foreseeable future as well as re-sign two of their key players.

Of course, Oklahoma City has not made any moves in free agency and with their 15-man roster already being set, it is unlikely that they will elect to sign any players.

Despite this, the Thunder could still make a trade to upgrade their roster as they have many young players and a ton of draft capital to pull off almost any move they would want to make.

While that may be the case, it seems as though they are set with bringing back a similar roster to last season’s which helped them win the championship.
