Grizzlies’ Ja Morant takes big step

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN broke the news, revealing that Morant has decided to move on a different direction without his agent who has been with him since he entered the NBA.

“Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant and his longtime agent Jim Tanner have parted ways, sources tell ESPN. Tanner had represented Morant since coming out of Murray State as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft,” Wojnarowski reported.

While no reason was mentioned with regards to the split between Morant and Tanner, it’s particularly noteworthy because of everything that happened with the Grizzlies star this 2023-24 season.

As everyone knows, Morant was suspended for 25 games to start the campaign due to the gun-toting incident he was involved in during the offseason. And then when he came back, he didn’t last long after he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury.

Morant has yet to speak publicly about his latest career decision, but fans should know more in the offseason when the superstar guard works his way back to full health.

Ja Morant’s Memphis Grizzlies Future

Sure enough, however, Memphis Grizzlies fans don’t have anything to worry about Ja Morant’s commitment to the team. While players often change agents when they are preparing for free agency or maybe wanting a different direction in their careers, Morant hasn’t signaled that he feels that way in Memphis.

Besides, Morant is under contract with the Grizzlies until the 2027-28 season after signing a five-year, $197 million deal in 2022.

It’s possible Morant changed his agents because he wants to have a fresh start and get a new perspective when it comes to his career direction. Players also changes agents in order to improve their businesses and ventures off the court.

Regardless of the reason, hopes are high that Morant will be able to steer his career in the right direction as he moves forward with the Grizzlies. Morant is expected to make a full recovery and return to the court before the start of the 2024-25 season.
