Golden State Warriors can't extract any positivity from Thursday evening. In what felt like the loss from the 2022 playoffs, in which the Grizzlies destroyed the Warriors 134-95 in Game 5 of the semifinals, Thursday's matchup at the FedExForum played like a remix of "Whoop That Trick." The Grizzlies whooped the Warriors in a shameful one-sided contest 144-93.
Ahead of Thursday's matchup, Grizzlies star point guard Ja Morant nearly missed the contest, as the team listed him as questionable on the injury report due to a back ailment. However, the Warriors received a thrashing to their backside as the Grizzlies bent them over for an old-school spanking from the game's start.
Golden State saw stars early but fell behind 20-7 due to four early 3-point shots from Memphis. The Warriors never recovered, and the closest they got to sniffing a tie was 8-2 early in the first quarter.
Santi Aldama led the Grizzlies with 21 points, 8 for 16 shooting from the field, and a fiery 5 for 10 from 3.
Meanwhile, Brandin Podziemski scored 21 points, as someone had to lead the Warriors in such a blowout loss.
Although Dennis Schroder's debut with the Warriors didn't go as planned, as he only mustered five points, it gets more embarrassing, as Stephen Curry and Draymond Green combined a measly two points.
Ultimately, the Warriors never stood a chance against a seemingly possessed Grizzlies team with a bone to pick with a franchise that stepped over them en route to winning the 2022 NBA championship.
The on-court product can't suffer such a losing effort despite trade rumors and contract disputes. Frankly, such a defeat won't go unforgotten by Warriors head coach Steve Kerr. The Warriors don't have long to stew over the blowout loss as they play at the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday.
