Guerschon Yabusele is not pretending this season has gone the way he imagined.
Before the Knicks’ win over the Sixers, Yabusele admitted the reality has fallen short of expectations.
“It’s definitely not what I was expecting coming into the season,” he said, via the New York Post. “I thought it would be a little more different.”
That honesty comes as his name continues to surface in trade chatter ahead of the February 5 deadline.
The Knicks have been linked to active talks involving Yabusele, and he has not exactly quieted the noise. In recent days, he has reposted messages on social media hinting at a potential change of scenery, including one calling for “a trade and a good situation” for the French national team captain.
On the court, the role has shrunk. Yabusele logged just three scoreless minutes Saturday and has largely fallen out of coach Mike Brown’s regular rotation after arriving in New York with expectations of anchoring the bench.
He says he is trying to stay grounded.
“It’s nothing that I can control,” Yabusele said. “Just try to be smart, be ready when my name is called.”
Yabusele’s resurgence began last season in Philadelphia and carried into a strong Olympic run with France. But in New York, the fit has not clicked.
With the deadline nearing, his next chapter may be closer than expected.
