Guerschon Yabusele had a breakout campaign in the 2024-25 season with the Philadelphia 76ers. Now, he is on his way to the New York Knicks, where he looks to be a big-time contributor.
After five years away from the NBA, Guerschon Yabusele capitalized on a strong 2024 Paris Olympics performance with France. He worked his way back to the NBA, signing a one-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers.
That was a fantastic decision for Yabusele, as he became one of the 76ers’ best players. He would have loved to return and continue playing for the 76ers after the one-year deal expired. Unfortunately, Philadelphia did not give him the offer he wanted, so he explored other opportunities.
The New York Knicks came knocking, and when they offered a two-year contract worth $12 million, he loved the opportunity. Now, he is ready to prove the doubters wrong and cement himself within the Knicks rotation.
Yabusele was good enough to earn a hefty contract extension. That did not mean he would sign a $20+ million deal, but he wanted more than his minimum salary. Now, he found that deal with the Knicks, which is worth around $12 million.
The Frenchman has a player option for his second year in New York. If he continues to impress, a bigger contract might come in the future. This was a savvy move because he found his way to a team that could potentially contend for a championship.

It was unfortunate that Philadelphia did not extend him a good contract. He was good enough to be one of their best players last season. However, Yabusele will be playing with his bully ball style and relentless motor in New York.
“I was thinking to myself, ‘Oh my god, I could go back.’ I didn’t really have any issues over there like I want to leave, no. I was like, ‘OK, if they want to re-sign me and then they give me something good, I will come back, for sure. And if they want me to leave, then I will leave,'” Yabusele said in an interview with SKWEEK.
“I didn’t have any hard feelings or hard time. But they almost didn’t make really like an offer. They did, but it was really, really low to be really transparent.”
“So it was I felt like, ‘Oh my god, you guys, it seems like you don’t really want me to stay, kind of.’ So it was a situation.”
After signing with the Knicks, the pressure is high for Yabusele. He will be playing some heavy minutes in the 2025-26 season, serving as a backup to their star players. Karl-Anthony Towns will be glad that they have an underrated player alongside him.
Yabusele proved he could be a big-time contributor with his hard-working style. That kind of role is key for the Knicks, as they need someone to be physical and overpower the opponents. He did that with the French national team and the 76ers, so he is expected to do the same for the Knicks.

With Jalen Brunson as the star and Mike Brown at the helm, the Knicks are in a good spot. They are working on improving the roster with signings like Yabusele, and they will take many steps forward.
The Knicks are one of the top contenders in the Eastern Conference. They are fresh off the Eastern Conference Finals and want to maintain that momentum. With the same core and a new head coach, they are working hard to get the best results possible.
