Through the first 20 games of the NBA season, the Orlando Magic were seen as a surprising contender in the Eastern Conference, and one of the hot young teams to take over.
Then they ran into the New York Knicks.
New York hasn't played nearly as consistently as they probably would have wanted to start the season, but their 121-106 win over Orlando showed that the team has finally turned a corner.
Their 13-8 record may not show it, but the Knicks showed the part of true title contenders recently with wins in eight of their last 10 games.
Tuesday's victory over Orlando was just the latest example.
New York led by as many as 31 points throughout the game and had six different players in double figures. It was the kind of performance that showed how good the Knicks' offense is and how improved their defense has been.
Before the last week of games, New York's defensive efficiency rating was among the worst in the league. Since then, it has climbed back up to 19th overall. While the numbers still don't look all that good, it's a significant jump over the last week.
And it looks like the team is only getting better. ... with Knicks fans likely all saying the same thing about the lineup's chance in performance.
With the pending return of key players like Precious Achiuwa and Mitchell Robinson coming soon, the Knicks will have their full collection of players to rely on moving forward this season.
And it makes them incredibly hard to stop. Even for a young and rising team like the Magic.
