The Atlanta Hawks have started their offseason on a good note, and they're already making moves to improve their team for next season. On Tuesday, they made a three-team deal with the Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets and acquired Kristaps Porzingis. There was always a chance that the Celtics would be making moves to save money, and the Hawks were able to make the moves necessary to land Porzingis.
There will be more moves to be made and the Hawks have a chance to keep getting better as the offseason continues. With the No. 13 pick and free agency coming up, there's no reason why the Hawks can't be one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference.
Porzingis was a big get for the Hawks, but it doesn't seem like they're done as they've been linked to Nickeil Alexander-Walker of the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to The Stein Line.
"Atlanta was able to seal its three-team deal with Boston and Brooklyn by sending out the contracts of Terance Mann and Georges Niang, meaning that it still has the TPE (trade exception) at its disposal," the Stein Line wrote.
"Word is that the Hawks, at roughly $30 million below the luxury-tax line, are expected to register interest in a sign-and-trade deal with Minnesota to try to acquire Nickeil Alexander-Walker — among various options that Atlanta is exploring with its trade and financial flexibility — in the event that the Timberwolves, in their quests to re-sign Julius Randle and Naz Reid, run out of the flexibility needed to re-sign Alexander-Walker."
Alexander-Walker would be a great player for the Hawks – he's a great defender and reliable 3-pointer shooter who shot 38% from behind the arc last season.
