The Hawks are keeping Quin Snyder around for the long haul.
Atlanta announced that Snyder has agreed to a multiyear contract extension, confirming earlier reports from ESPN’s Shams Charania. Financial terms were not disclosed.
“I am grateful to the Ressler family and humbled to continue leading this team,” Snyder said in a statement. “I love this group of players, love coaching this team and am fortunate to have a tremendous coaching staff.”
The extension comes after Atlanta returned to the playoffs for the first time in three years. The Hawks closed the regular season on a 20-6 run to secure the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference before falling to the Knicks in the first round.
Atlanta’s front office recently promoted Onsi Saleh from general manager to president of basketball operations, and Charania reported the organization is emphasizing continuity heading into the offseason.
Snyder, 59, took over as Hawks coach during the 2022-23 season after spending eight successful years with the Jazz. He owns a 132-135 record in Atlanta and a 504-399 mark overall as an NBA head coach.
According to Charania, Snyder is the only coach in league history to oversee consecutive Most Improved Player winners, with Dyson Daniels and Nickeil Alexander-Walker capturing the award in each of the past two seasons.
