Hawks Waive Lamont Butler

The Hawks requested waivers on Lamont Butler last week, per NBA.com’s transaction log, and the 6’2″ guard is now an unrestricted free agent (hat tip to Hawks beat reporter Brad Rowland).

Butler signed a non-guaranteed training camp deal with Atlanta last week, a contract that likely featured Exhibit 10 language. He should be on track to earn a bonus worth up to $91K if he spends at least 60 days with the College Park Skyhawks of the NBA G League.

Butler, who played four years at San Diego State and one at Kentucky before going undrafted in 2025, signed an Exhibit 10 deal with Atlanta last fall and was waived before 2025/26 began. However, he never actually suited up for College Park, having been deactivated before the NBAGL season opened.

In his final college season with Kentucky in 2024/25, Butler averaged 11.4 points, 4.3 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals in 26.0 minutes per game across 27 appearances. His shooting slash line was .498/.391/.735.
