Dallas Mavericks forward Anthony Davis is still at the apex of his career. Although he’s dealt with various injuries, he’s still considered one of the best frontcourt stars in the NBA. Many believe that to be a fact, including his teammate, Klay Thompson. During a recent interview with Michael Cooper, Thompson revealed that he thinks Davis is arguably the best power forward of his generation.
In the NBA, there are incredibly talented players. Davis is considered to be part of that talent pool. In his career, AD has been an All-Star ten times, an All-NBA talent five times, an All-Defensive player five times and an NBA champion once.
Because of what he’s displayed over the years, it’s hard to ignore what he has done on the court. When Thompson was asked about the Mavericks’ outlook, he didn’t shy away from giving Davis the credit that he deserves.
“I mean, AD, when he’s healthy, is the best power forward, maybe of my generation,” Thompson said. “I mean, you’ve seen him up close with the Lakers… He is a two-way force. I mean, there’s not many big men who can do what he does, as far as handles, his blocking shot ability, his jumpshot… I think we personally have the best front court in the NBA when healthy.”
“Like, we have so much depth in the frontcourt between PJ (Washington), Coop (Cooper Flagg), Gaff (Daniel Gafford), D-Live (Dereck Lively II) and AD… and getting a guy like D-Lo and having guard depth, I’m just really excited.”
Dallas is expected to have an entertaining 2025–2026 season. Davis, Irving, and Thompson have a remarkable blend of skill and expertise. Additionally, the Dallas Mavericks have the best rookie of the 2025 NBA draft in Cooper Flagg.
When Klay Thompson left the Dallas Mavericks, it signified that he was willing to have a different experience. He’s become accustomed to the Golden State Warriors, where Stephen Curry and Draymond Green were both the vocal leaders. This time, with the Mavericks, Thompson understands that he needs to be a vocal leader.
He revealed that it’s one of his goals to become a better leader. The five-time All-Star talked about it during his guest appearance on the show, “Showtime with Cooper.”
“I gotta lead these guys with my voice. I never really did that back in Golden State, so now I have a different calling to use my championship knowledge and show these guys it’s a journey… We just gotta peak at the right time… So, I’m really excited. I’m actually gonna go to the gym now. I haven’t been this motivated in years,” Thompson said.
Given that he’s well-experienced, Thompson will have no trouble adjusting to becoming a leader for the Mavericks.
