Los Angeles Lakers guard Bronny James recently broke his silence on the trade speculation surrounding his dad, LeBron, when he spoke to reporters after NBA Summer League practice.
Like most of us, the younger James has “no idea” whether a trade will take place. Rather than focusing on what the Los Angeles Lakers front office will do, James would rather work on improving as a basketball player.
“Actually, one of my friends called me, talking about where (I was going to play next season), what I was going to do because they saw my dad (in the news),” Bronny said via ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. “I didn’t see it. He called me. I was like, ‘Yeah, I have no idea what you’re talking about.’ … I don’t really pay attention to that stuff.”
“I think when stuff like that does come up, he just tells me to not worry about it, to not even pay attention to it (and) just lock into what you have going on right now. And that’s what’s going to get me better and to keep me focused. I think it’s good that he tells me to not pay attention to that stuff,” he added.
Bronny James had to get over the stigma of being the son of LeBron James during his rookie season with the Los Angeles Lakers. As he continues to improve week after week, the 20-year-old combo guard is coming into his sophomore year with a clearer mind.
“There’s definitely some more excitement than nervousness for sure. I’m just ready to play, ready to go out there and play and be better than I was last time I was playing,” James explained.
“So, just having the mindset of being ready to play and ready for whatever’s thrown at me. No matter if it’s the role, what I got to do on defense, offense, being a good teammate to my new summer league team, stuff like that. Just really excited to go out there and play,” he added.
