The Dallas Mavericks finally featured the much-awaited debut of Cooper Flagg. The Mavericks played against the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday and came away with an 87-85 win. It was almost the perfect game for the fans since Flagg had the chance to play against one of the biggest rookies from last season, Bronny James.
Unfortunately, the star rookies didn’t have the best outing. Flagg couldn’t find his shooting stroke and finished with 10 points on 23.8 percent shooting from the field. Though he helped the team in other ways. The former Duke star had six rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block.
The former USC guard didn’t have the best performance, either. James had eight points on 25 percent shooting. James struggled to shoot from beyond the arc and only made 16.7 percent of his attempts from the 3-point arc.
Although Flagg didn’t have the best game, NBA insider Kevin O’Connor spoke highly of what the Mavericks rookie did on Thursday.
“Cooper Flagg versus Bronny James, Mavericks versus the Lakers,” O’Connor started. “And Cooper, first four and a half minutes of the game, did nothing. Then he took a quick little break, comes out in the first half, and he looked like Cooper Flagg. He was absolutely dominant.
“Had a dunk and a pullup from the mid-range, making plays on defense. The play that stiuck out to me the most was one that isn’t going to be recorded as anything. It was this almost dunk in the half court where he took off from outside of the restricted area and he just got up there. A way that I think showed that maybe this guy is improving as an athlete.”
"He was absolutely DOMINANT."

O’Connor believes Flagg needs more time for fans to see his true full potential with the Dallas Mavericks. The next game for the star rookie and the Mavericks will be on Saturday, against the San Antonio Spurs.
There were a few moments in the Summer League game where James had to take the defensive assignment and guard the Dallas Mavericks’ rookie. On paper, the son of LeBron James should be overpowered by Flagg, since the former Duke star is 6-foot-10, while the Lakers guard is 6-foot-2.
However, James was able to hold his own and help his team get a few defensive stops. Following the contest, the former 55th pick revealed his thoughts about Flagg and what he saw in him.
“He’s a quick, powerful big, so we’ve got to do everything we can to stop him and slow him down. But he’s a great player and he’s going to get his at some time. Just got to do a great job at stopping him down,” James said.
