Heat among teams linked to John Konchar

The Heat still have an open roster spot and could be among the teams interested in using it on free agent wing John Konchar.

According to Brett Siegel of Clutch Points, Miami expressed interest in Konchar when Konchar was still with the Grizzlies.

That, of course, feels like a hundred years ago now. But it was actually just last season. Konchar, 30, has been traded twice since.

First to the Jazz at the February trade deadline, and then to the Timberwolves in the Josh Green deal earlier this weekend. Minnesota immediately waived him, setting up Konchar to become a free agent on Monday.

None of this is to say the Heat will be pounding on his door or blowing up his phone. But again, the interest had been there previously. And again, they do have a roster spot to fill after already adding Klay Thompson and Nick Richards this month.

Konchar, 30, spent his first seven seasons with the Grizzlies. He appeared in 56 games between the Grizzlies and Jazz last season and averaged 4.4 points. That included a career-high 5.9 points in 26 games with Utah.

Will Konchar change the trajectory of your franchise? Yeah, probably not. But he’s a veteran utility guy in reserve and those guys tend to find jobs.

He is likely to end up in someone’s training camp somewhere. Perhaps that somewhere will be Miami.
