The Heat and Hornets game is huge. The Hornets are 1.5 games behind the Heat for the eighth seed in the East. They beat the Celtics on Wednesday at Boston Garden, so they are super hot. The Heat completed their tasks this week and didn’t falter to the Nets. Tomorrow’s game in Charlotte is the biggest between the Heat and Hornets since the Hornets were “the Bobcats.”
Tyler Herro scored four straight points with a Kel’el Ware three-point shot sandwiched in between. The Heat went up 79-75 with 5:14 left in the third quarter. Herro then scored five straight points with under three minutes to push the lead to eight. The Heat got up to a nineteen point lead in the fourth.
The Nets fought and cut the lead down to fifteen but the Heaters held them off. The Heat turned over the Nets nineteen times and held them to 42% shooting. The Heat shot 57% and dominated the Nets by 20 in the paint. Bottom line was that the team did what they were supposed to do.
Kel’el Ware helped out vs. the Nets with Bam in foul trouble. Heavy.com’s Juan Paolo David wrote the following quote by Erik Spoelstra on Ware’s play:
“His teammates are encouraging him to be more aggressive guarding the basket. He’s getting more alert on situations. His first few rim protections were in our man defense. He was super active tonight.”
Now, the key to Ware being a professional is in tonight’s game — Can he get ready to board the plane? Put the same focus into preparation tonight before the game and deal with the ebbs and flows of tonight’s dynamic?
The Heat have had winning streaks of six, four and three in the last few years against Charlotte. The last times that Charlotte was competitive was the 2013-14 and 2015-16 seasons (went to the first round of the playoffs.) Minus the 2013-14 season (the Heatles), Charlotte tied Miami in the season series three straight seasons.
Charlotte has won six games in a row and is 7-3 in their last 10 games. The Hornets have been healthy and the team has focused on playing better since they played in Miami. Miami won’t be scoring 147 points on the Hornets in this game. Kon Kneuppel has been a star player for the Hornets and has a contagious winning attitude.
