Miami Heat star Norman Powell is in the midst of the best season of his 11-year NBA career. A testament to this is how the 32-year-old earned his first All-Star call-up this season.
Heading into Thursday’s matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers, Powell averaged a career-high 22.9 points on 47.5% shooting, 3.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.2 steals. The 6-foot-3 shooting guard has also knocked down 2.9 triples on a highly efficient 39.2% clip.
Powell, however, entered Thursday’s matchup with a questionable tag due to a groin injury. The Heat ultimately gave him the green light to play, but it seems that Powell may have aggravated the injury in the first half.
Powell was forced to leave the game in the second quarter. The former UCLA Bruins standout headed to the locker room to have his groin checked by the medical staff. It did not take long for the Heat to make their decision.
Miami took to social media to announce that Powell is done for the night.
“#MIAvsPHI INJURY UPDATE: Norman Powell left tonight's game vs the Sixers with a right groin strain and will not return,” the team posted on X.

The official diagnosis is a groin strain. However, the Heat have not provided the full details of the injury. Powell will likely undergo more tests, which should determine the extent of the issue. Depending on the results, Powell could be forced to miss time with this apparent aggravation.
In the meantime, more minutes should be available for the likes of Jaime Jaquez and Myron Gardner. Powell finished Thursday’s game with three points, three rebounds, two asissts and one triple in 10 minutes of action.
The Heat entered Thursday's game with a 31-28 record. As of writing, they are eighth in the Eastern Conference.
