The Heat give up 39 points in the fourth quarter and drop the first game in three games they play this week. Milwaukee is 25-31 and the Heat were 31-27, hot on the heels of the Philadelphia 76ers to get the sixth seed. Coach Spoelstra said at the All-Star break that the team was “starting to come around.” Heat fans are suffering to see the team get the sixth seed and leave the play-in tournament.
The Heat were up 116-114 with 4:09 remaining. Kevin Porter Jr. scored six straight points. Then, Ryan Rollins scored four straight points. The Heat didn’t have an answer. That put them up 124-116 and that was the game. The Heat shot 40% in the second half compared to Milwaukee’s 54.5%. The Heat starting lineup of Bam Adebayo, Andrew Wiggins, Pelle Larsson, Norman Powell and Davion Mitchell was 5-2 coming into the game.
The Heat have a day off tomorrow and travel to Philadelphia to play them on Thursday. The Sixers are 32-26 and in sixth position in the Eastern Conference. The Heat afterwards will play the Houston Rockets down in Miami on Saturday but the Rockets are 16-14 on the road. Since the Bucks are now in the running to make the play-in tournament, this game was huge for them. The Heat could win the season series at a March 13 game in Miami.
The 76ers beat the Pacers tonight and Joel Embiid returned to the team after a five game absence. The Pacers stink this season but the Sixers offense was on fire. Tyler Herro scored 14 points on 17 shots against the Bucks tonight. He’ll be going up against Tyrese Maxey on Thursday, so possibly he may play a strong game.
The Rockets beat up on the Jazz and will play the Kings and Orlando before playing Miami on Saturday. Amen Thompson is going to miss the Kings game with left quadricep tendinitis. The Jazz, although they are tanking, they leave clues on weaknesses of their opponents. They turned the Rockets over 26 times. The Rockets lost to the Knicks and only turned the ball over nine times, so they may “be in their own heads.”
