As the 2025 NBA Draft takes center stage, the Miami Heat are reportedly working behind the scenes on more than just the draft. With free agency looming, the franchise has emerged as a possible landing spot for one of the most intriguing young names on the market.
According to NBA insider Shams Charania, “They [the Heat] are expected to be a potential suitor for Warriors free agent Jonathan Kuminga.”
Kuminga, who helped Golden State win a championship in 2022, is coming off his most productive season yet, averaging 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists while shooting 45.4% from the field. Still just 22, the forward has become a coveted target for teams hoping to unlock his full potential after an inconsistent role in the Warriors’ system.
Miami has long been known for maximizing upside, and Kuminga’s athleticism, defensive versatility, and flashes of elite scoring fit well with the Heat’s developmental identity. With Jimmy Butler now out of the picture and the roster in flux, Kuminga could slide into a major role in Erik Spoelstra’s rotation, especially if the team leans younger.
While Golden State holds the right to match any offer sheet, a sign-and-trade is firmly on the table. That kind of flexibility could open the door for Miami to make a competitive push while still preserving its long-term cap strategy.
Nothing is imminent, but the fit makes sense, and the buzz around Miami’s next move just got a little louder.
