The Heat score 147 on Denver but the team is only three games above .500. Their explosion on offense was the first time since they scored 143 against Chicago on November 21. Denver was the second best road team in the NBA heading into the game. The term “homefield advantage” really doesn’t have an effect unless its the playoffs. But, on Monday night, anyone would second guess the claim.

Key sequence

The teams were tied at 63 heading into the half. Nikola Jokic got injured a few seconds before the half and didn’t play in the second. But the Nuggets fell apart. The Heat scored 47 points in the third quarter. They made ten out of fourteen three-point attempts. Denver shot 62.5% in the third quarter but the Heat shot 73%.

The Heat traditionally let their defense spark their offense. This season, their offense has set the pace for the overall success of the team. Jaime Jaquez Jr. scored twenty points. He said to the Sun-Sentinel that the offense returned to rim attacks, “cutting, disruptive, reckless, playing fast.” Nikola Jovic has been playing better in the last three games since the team was at 15-15.

New Year first five opponents

The Heat have three road games and two home games to start 2026. They play at Detroit on New Year’s Day and play a home and home with Minnesota. They finish the first five game stretch of 2026 on January 8th at Chicago. The Timberwolves are 21-12 and are 12-6 at home.

Miami has never played well in Minnesota. They are 1-3 in their last four games in Minnesota. The last victory was in November 2024 when Tyler Herro scored 26 points. Tyler Herro is currently not playing because of a toe contusion. Anthony Edwards has experienced right shoulder soreness but it is still not known if he will play against Miami.
