The Heat are stressing over the upcoming trade deadline and with mental fortitude problems from their players. Tonight, they played the final game in the “three game gauntlet.”
With the score tied at 106, Ayo Dosunmu put the team on his back and scored 10 straight points to put the Bulls up by 3. Dosunmu shot three-pointers, drove to the basket assertively and the Heat couldn’t defend him. Then Matas Buzelis took over and scored seven straight points. The Heat had no answer.
On Tap Sports network writer Sal Bass points out that Dosunmu is a “glue guy” for the Bulls. Giddey and Coby White are the top two best players but Dosunmu’s play holds the team together. Another “glue guy” for the Bulls is Matas Buzelis. Even Coach Billy Donovan notes that Buzelis “is not afraid of moments” and has “a good work ethic, competitive.”
Tonight, with 4:15 remaining, the Heat were up by 50. They scored 39 points in the third quarter to the blow the game open. In the fourth, there was no let down by the Heat defense. They kept the pressure on the Bulls. Dosunmu has only scored 10 points and Buzelis has scored 2 points.
Seven Heat players scored in double figures with Bam Adebayo and Pelle Larsson scoring 20 points a piece. The final score was 134-91. A 43 point drubbing. They outscored the Bulls in the second half, 72-51. They were up big in the first half and didn’t look back in the second.
Coach Spoelstra had talked about the team’s mental strength this season. They needed to develop a mental strength to withstand low points in games. Tonight, the team decided to overwhelm the Bulls with mental fortitude. The Heat won the season series 3-1 so they won the tiebreaker with playoff seeding.
