Heat Trade All-Time Leader in Threes on Tuesday

The Miami Heat have officially made their first non-retention acquisition of NBA Free Agency.

After bringing back Davion Mitchell, who was one of the few bright spots down the stretch for the team, it has been radio silence for Miami as players across the NBA find new homes.

On Tuesday, that sentiment changed for the Heat, but in a manner that resulted in them trading away the franchise's best three-point shooter in its history, Duncan Robinson. As revealed by ESPN's NBA insider Shams Charania, the Heat moved Robinson in a sign-and-trade move with the Detroit Pistons.

"Detroit is trading Simone Fontecchio to Miami to acquire Duncan Robinson in a sign-and-trade, sources tell ESPN," wrote Shams Charania.

In Fontecchio, the Heat are getting a 6-foot-7 forward who has shown flashes of having scoring capabilities. Throughout his career, he has averaged 7.6 points on 41.9% shooting from the field and 36.3% shooting from deep.

As for what they are losing in Robinson, who is expected to ink a three-year $48 million deal with Detroit, Robinson currently holds the record for most threes in franchise history (1,202).

The former Michigan standout who started his college career at the DIII level was the prototypical Heat hidden gem. He went from being an undrafted free agent to inking a two-way deal with Miami. He then parlayed that into a seven-year career that saw him ink a monster five-year deal worth $90 million.

While he may have been too expensive for a return to the Heat, he certainly left his mark on the franchise.
