The Miami Heat "don't like their hand" in potential Jimmy Butler trade scenarios, reports ESPN's Brian Windhorst.
According to Windhorst, the Heat have received "a lot of calls" from teams since they publicly made Butler available in trade talks last Friday. However, they have reportedly been flooded with underwhelming offers for the six-time All-Star.
"The issue is that most of the offers are not that attractive to the Heat," Windhorst told ESPN's "SportsCenter" on Sunday. "And that doesn't surprise them because a month ago they heard some calls on Jimmy Butler and then they came out with that statement that they weren't going to trade him because they really didn't like any of the offers. Right now, teams are testing how low they can buy Jimmy Butler for."
Windhorst noted that the Suns have shown the most urgency to trade for Butler but cannot make the Heat an offer without convincing Bradley Beal to waive his no-trade clause. According to ESPN's Bobby Marks, the Heat "have no desire" to take back the final two years of Beal's $251M contract and would need to get a third team involved.
Similarly, the Warriors and Mavericks — the two other teams in Butler's reported preferred destinations — would need to find a third or fourth team to reroute some contracts. As such, the Heat could face many challenges in finding Butler a new home over the next few weeks.
"It's going to be a lot of talking and a lot of complicated maneuvering," Windhorst added. "I think Butler will eventually get moved but the Heat don't like their hand right now at all."
The Heat have until the Feb. 6 deadline to trade Butler. If not, they face the realistic possibility of losing him as a free agent in the offseason. Butler is currently serving a seven-game suspension and could return for the Heat's Jan. 17 home fixture against the Nuggets.
