Heat’s Tyler Herro Injury Gets Major Update

Miami Heat shooting guard Tyler Herro could return to the court soon.

According to Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald, the expectation is Herro will miss at least another week before returning to game action after his ankle was re-evaluated over the weekend.

Herro sprained his right ankle on November 8 against the Memphis Grizzlies. He was diagnosed with a Grade 2 ankle sprain.

“I heard some like crunching and cracks in my ankle,” Herro said. “Obviously, it’ll probably be a couple of weeks. But I’m just going to get my treatment, stick to my routine and I’ll be back.”

Herro is averaging 22.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.6 assists for the Heat this season. The 23-year-old is shooting 44.7% from the field, 41.0% from beyond the arc and 88.0% from the free-throw line.

The Heat are 10-7 on the season. Herro still leads the team in points per game.

Miami tried to acquire Damian Lillard from the Portland Trail Blazers this past offseason and the front office included Herro in trade talks. However, the Blazers traded Lillard to the Milwaukee Bucks and Herro was “ecstatic” when his agent told him he was staying with the Heat.

“I was happy. Ecstatic, really,” Herro said in an interview with Wes Goldberg of The Ringer. “My family’s here, my kids, my [friends] live in Miami. Came from Milwaukee with me. Everything is in Miami. If I were to get traded, at the end of my career Miami will still be my home.”

Herro, who won the 2021-22 Sixth Man of the Year Award, has career averages of 17.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists with the Heat.
