The New York Knicks have been busy ever since they suffered a painful defeat in the Eastern Conference Finals to the Indiana Pacers.
They fired Tom Thibodeau just a few days later and were trying to find a replacement for him immediately.
After multiple failed attempts of trying to poach coaches like Ime Udoka and Jason Kidd, they finally decided to appoint Mike Brown.
On the side, the New York Knicks were also making moves in free agency by signing players such as Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele.
Both are quality additions and will benefit from playing under Brown, who is a two-time coach of the year award recipient.
But according to an analyst, one player in particular will excel as a Knicks player with Brown as a coach.
Clarkson had a successful stint with the Utah Jazz, winning sixth man of the year honours in 2021.
His ability to score the ball and make plays helped the Jazz massively and those abilities have already been pointed out by Brown.
The former Sacramento Kings coach is known to like fast-paced game, and according to Szcerbiak, he will really appreciate Clarkson for the same.
Speaking about Brown, Szczerbiak said: “I think it’s going to fit perfectly. Mike Brown is going to demand excellence on the defensive end of the floor.
“Mike Brown also loves pace and space. Loves to play fast, loves guys that push the ball up the floor that are athletic.”
Szcerbiak also further shared his thoughts on how Clarkson could help the Knicks next season.
“Jordan Clarkson, he’s a jet, he’s really quick. You can get up and down the floor. He can knock down threes in transition. He can score any way you want him to score.
“And he can also put pressure on the defense by getting to the free throw line. So he’s going to help Jalen Brunson a lot not have to handle the offense and run the offense, because he could be a combo guard, can play off the ball and could also run the point,” he added.
Patrick Beverley also recently pointed out Clarkson’s quickness being something the Knicks could benefit from.
He averaged 16.2 points last season with the Jazz, shooting 36.2% from three-point range.
Season | Points | Assists | Three Point % |
2024-25 | 16.2 | 3.7 | 36.2% |
2023-24 | 17.1 | 5 | 29.4% |
2022-23 | 20.8 | 4.4 | 33.8% |
2021-22 | 16 | 3.5 | 31.8% |
These are great numbers for a player that comes off the bench predominantly and indicates Jalen Brunson will get all the help he needs in the backcourt.
Last season, the likes of Cam Payne and Landry Shamet delivered in a few games, but Clarkson is a scorer who delivers consistently.

He is 33 and has been in the league for a decade now, which is why adding him to their roster will bring more experience to the Knicks.
They were brilliant last season, but lacked the depth to beat the Pacers. However, with the recent additions and the arrival of coach Brown, it seems like the Knicks could be the team to beat in the East.
